State House District 37 from 2005-Present
As the current State Representative for District #37, I have worked hard on behalf of the communities of Mililani, Waikele and Waipio Gentry. My background includes having a Masters in Social Work and a Masters in Business Administration both from UH. Since being elected in 2004, I have been the Chairman of the Committee’s of Tourism and Culture, Health, Transportation and now the Committee of Water and Land. My professional and educational background has provided me over 16 years of community leadership and advocacy.
The top 3 priorities for the communities of Mililani, Waikele and Waipio Gentry continue to be ensuring a positive economy that provides high quality jobs while protecting our natural resources. This includes supporting cost saving private public partnerships and spurring innovation. Families in our District continue to be negatively impacted by issues that face our quality of life, specifically traffic congestion and reducing crime. Our families want to have access to a high quality public education in a safe and high tech atmosphere. All of these issues require investments in improving basic community infrastructure while watching our Governmental spending.
Hawaii needs a full scale homeless safety net program to address the homeless crisis. We need services that provides incentives for participation and compliance, while providing them viable work skills. Programs must provide a wide range of support and would incorporate job training and health education as part of their basic services. Since Hawaii has a wide range of needs, we need a range of programs that can provide services to the working poor to those who are struggling with mental illness. Programs should not be single source opportunities, but have their participants actively engaged in services to help them learn skills that can translate into the workforce as part of their benefit package.
Supporting the people of my District is a top priority for me. I will continue to push ideas that develop industries that expand our economy and balance tourism with our overall sustainability. Continue to invest in improving our public education and transportation infrastructure to support our future leaders. Explore public private partnerships that reduces tax burdens on our constituents while using new technologies developed in the private sector. Our residents deserve having access to a Center of Excellence in Healthcare that leads the Nation in fighting cancer.
Thank you for your years of support and working together to better our communities.
