What qualifies you to represent the people of Hawaii?

I have represented District 16 for eight years. I began as Vice-Chair of Health, Chair of Human Services, Assistant Majority Leader, and now Majority Floor Leader. Prior to running for office, I worked with the County of Kauai for 36 years.

What are the top three challenges facing the voters you seek to represent?

Traffic and Pedestrian safety, Sewage and Housing

If elected, what will be your highest legislative priority?

Preservation of Salt beds at the Hanapepe Salt Ponds.

If elected, what can you do to improve the lives of your constituents?

Constituents need to have assurances that they have access to child care, education and elderly care. More affordable housing is needed, so we need to continue supporting organizations like Habitat for Humanities and Self Help housing. Cesspool conversion to septic or sewer systems must be a priority for State and County governments.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I have lived in my district for 35 years with my husband Ken. We raised 4 sons who graduated from Waimea High School. My whole adult life has been dedicated to public service and I will continue to serve as long as my constituents want me to. I now hold a leadership position in the legislature and am able to participate in very critical discussions about policies and issues and what direction we need to take to address them.
