What qualifies you to represent the people of Hawaii?

• My life experiences have qualified me to represent the people of Maui County beginning with
• being married for 48 years
• bearing and raising eleven children, 2 with developmental disabilities
• taking leadership roles in PTA’s in Waimanalo
• production of the community newsletter (Nalo News)
• re-establishing Iao School PTSA
• worked to bring the “Special Fair Day” for children & adults with disabilities
• collaborated to institute the Zero to Three Program
• organized the Waiohuli-Keokea Hawaiian Homestead Association
• sought and obtained tax exemptions on Hawaiian Home Lands in Maui county
• served on Awakening the Spirit Team, subcommittee of the American Diabetes Association based in Washington DC
• instrumental in the development of the Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Working Group of the American Diabetes Association based in Washington DC
• served on the Salary Commission for the Compensation of OHA Trustees
• founding member of Keokea Hawaiian Homes Farmers Association
• commissioner with the Hawaiian Sovereignty Advisory Commission and Hawaiian Sovereignty Elections Council
• President/CEO of member of the State Council of Hawaiian Homestead Associations, now known as Sovereign Councils of the Hawaiian Homelands Assembly
• more recent as a member of Aha Na’I Aupuni, where the development of the Native Hawaiian Constitution for self- determination was approved.

My work as a Pastor and faith based social justice organizer has prepared me to serve and represent my community, educate policy makers, present testimonies at the National, state, and local level, advocate for those in need, assist the marginalized, ask hard questions, listen for understanding, look at all sides of an issue, base decisions on information, discern rightfully, work with diverse populations and attitudes, exercise patience, think critically, work to empower others, to uphold and defend the Constitution to the best of my ability.
