Maui County Councilman - 2007-2016 (relinquished due to term limits)
As Mayor I will utilize my Experience of over 42 years in the private, public and non-profits sectors, and ability to Collaborate, to Lead the County where it needs to go. When making the decisions that will affect current and future generations, government must have input from everyone.
1. Affordable Housing (rentals & ownership) & Homelessness 2. Economic Diversification/Jobs for our residents 3. Viable agriculture and water availability .
To ensure that our residents have the ability to live a quality life and raise their families on Maui. This means we need to build housing people can actually afford; tackle the homeless crisis; and ensure economic diversification, including a 21st century sustainable agricultural model.
Our community is important to me. When I see our local families having to leave the islands for jobs or because they cannot find affordable housing, it breaks my heart. Our community is at a cross-roads and the next few years will help determine the future of our children and grand-children. It is our responsibility to provide a strong foundation for the next generation. As Mayor, I will work with stakeholders representing all viewpoints, to ensure we have the right policies, people and opportunities in place to provide that strong foundation for today and tomorrow.
My motto is Balanced Vision*Local Values. Local Values – we all have them…Work Hard, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Honest. These values are the reason why so many people have moved here over the years. We love to share the local values with everyone.
Values have no color, no ethnicity. Values aren’t political.
My great-grandfather came to Hawaii in 1871 to work on the plantation. My story is similar to many people in our community…the story of America is one of immigration. We as immigrants were welcomed to Hawaii and everyone had to get along. Those who came before us learned how to Adopt and Adapt to other cultures.
When you live on an island you must be aware of your neighbors and how you impact them. No talk stink; don’t close off your beach access, and above all, you help one another. Here in Hawaii we are taught to bring more than we take.
And that’s what I will do as Mayor. Collaboration. Leadership. Experience. Let’s keep Maui “No Ka Oi” for our future generations with our Local Values.
