What qualifies you to represent the people of Hawaii?

I'm a good listener who understands the importance of reducing burdens on working families, investing in public education and increasing support for seniors and their caregivers.
I've made a difference by authoring laws that made Hawaii the first state to provide financial support to working caregivers, increased public safety through common-sense gun laws and reforms to our correctional system, and improved services that help our kupuna to live independently.

What are the top three challenges facing the voters you seek to represent?

1. Coping with the high cost of living.
2. Sustaining our quality of life.
3. Preserving health and safety.

If elected, what will be your highest legislative priority?

As chair of the House Public Safety Committee, my top priority would be to safeguard community safety through improvements in our criminal justice and correctional system that more effectively rehabilitate offenders and reduce the likelihood they'll commit future crimes.

If elected, what can you do to improve the lives of your constituents?

If re-elected, I will continue to obtain funds for school improvements (amounting to $43 million since 2012); work to strengthen our social services, especially for our kupuna and disabled; and lead improvements to public safety.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

Groups that have assessed my record and are supporting my re-election include: Sierra Club, Hawaii State Teachers Assoc., Planned Parenthood, Hawaii Fire Fighters, UPW, HGEA, ILWU, Hawaii Council of Carpenters and IBEW Local 1186.
